Abortion
Planned
Parenthood of Delaware offers medical and surgical abortion
services.
Medical
abortion is an option for a woman during early pregnancy,
that is 56 days (8 weeks) or less since her last normal menstrual
period began.
Surgical abortion is an option for a woman who has been pregnant
up to thirteen weeks. PPDE uses a local anesthesia with the
option of sedation for this standard procedure, which is called
vacuum aspiration. The comprehensive fee includes counseling,
ultrasound, medical and lab services, initial pack of birth
control pills, any emergency care we provide, and a follow-up
medical check. The checkup should occur one to three weeks
after the abortion takes place.
Not all
of our medical centers provide abortions, so please call your
local center to find out where the closest medical center
to you would be. Planned Parenthood of Delaware's staff is
happy to answer any questions you may have about the procedure,
or resumption of normal activities, such as using birth control.
According
to Delaware law Planned Parenthood must notify the parent,
grandparent, or guardian of any woman under the age of 16
who is having an abortion. The parent must be notified at
least 24 hours before the abortion takes place. The law does
allow for a judge to make a by-pass of the parent notification,
but only in certain cases.
